The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle Haruki Murakami
Publisher: Knopf Doubleday Publishing Group

It had all of the things I love about Murakami's other novels which admittedly are usually strange, but I really enjoy his ability to write about the "weird". It has taken me over three months to reach the final page, smashing any contenders for the 'longest read ever' title. I like to think that I have a well balanced mental diet.Key words here are 'I like to think that'I love movies and books that are extremely well executed. I have just finished reading Murakami's 'The Wind Up Bird Chronicle'. You might have guessed it, if you knew I'm a Murakami fanatic. Sorry for my over use of “winding up”. Here's the next book cover in my project to redesign each book I read this year. Cross-posted at Blogging Bookworms. This book has also been reviewed here by The Unreliable Witness, upon whose recommendation I read it. The third book is 'The Wind-up Bird Chronicle' by Haruki Murakami (also see '11.22.33' & 'The year of magical thinking'). The Wind Up Bird Chronicle was great. I am not sure how much war and violence feature in other Murakami works, but like Kurt Vonnegut and even Joseph Heller, The Wind Up Bird Chronicle has a theme focusing on collective trauma from war and violence. I started reading this book before my recent visit to Japan, where I visited Shinjuku, Ginza and other area of Tokyo, which enabled me to get a much better picture of the novel's location. Yeah, I am reading “The wind-up Bird Chronicle”.
